How to Pay Any UPI QR with USDT in India (Step-by-Step)

Published 23 October 2026

Yes, you can pay a shop's UPI QR code with USDT in India. You don't need to sell your USDT and wait for the money in your bank first. This guide shows how to pay UPI QR with USDT using P2PINR's Scan & Pay. You scan the shop's normal QR code, type the amount in rupees, and the USDT for it comes out of your P2PINR balance.

The shop gets ordinary rupees by UPI, the same way it gets any UPI payment. The shopkeeper does not need to accept crypto or install anything.

Below you will find how it works, the exact steps, the limits and fees, what to do if something goes wrong, and the risks.

Quick answer

  • Can you do it? Yes. P2PINR's Scan & Pay lets you scan any UPI QR code and pay it in INR from your USDT balance.
  • What does the shop get? Normal INR by UPI. A verified merchant on P2PINR sends it.
  • What do you need? A P2PINR account with USDT in your wallet. You add it by depositing on BNB Smart Chain (BEP-20) or by buying with INR in the app.
  • How long does it take? The merchant pays the shop, usually within 7 minutes.
  • What if the shop isn't paid? You tap "Shop didn't get it — hold my USDT" on the order. Your USDT stays locked while the P2PINR team checks.

How Scan & Pay works behind the scenes

Most pages about this topic just say "scan, confirm, done". It helps to know who actually sends the money, because that is how you know what to check.

  1. You scan and enter the INR amount. The app reads the shop's UPI QR. You type the rupee amount, for example ₹450 for groceries.
  2. Your USDT is held in escrow. The USDT for that amount is taken from your balance and locked on the order. It is not released to anyone yet.
  3. A verified merchant accepts the order. P2PINR merchants are verified and ranked on how reliably they trade.
  4. The merchant pays the shop by UPI. The shop sees a normal UPI credit, usually within 7 minutes.
  5. You confirm once the shop has the money. Only then is the locked USDT released to the merchant.

If something goes wrong, either side can raise a dispute on the order, and the P2PINR team decides it. Your USDT stays locked while the team checks.

Before you start: put USDT in your P2PINR wallet

First, sign up. You then need USDT in your P2PINR wallet. There are two ways to add it.

Option 1: Deposit USDT on BNB Smart Chain (BEP-20)

If you already hold USDT on another exchange or in your own wallet:

  1. Open Wallet → Deposit and copy your own USDT address.
  2. Send USDT on BNB Smart Chain (BEP-20) only, from your exchange or wallet.
  3. Send at least 3.00 USDT. Smaller amounts are not credited and can't be refunded.
  4. It is credited automatically after 15 network confirmations, usually within 15 minutes.

Important: USDT sent on another network (TRC-20, ERC-20, Polygon and others) or any other token can be lost for good. On your exchange's withdrawal screen, choose BEP-20 / BNB Smart Chain and check the address twice before you send. You can follow your transfer on BscScan using the transaction hash (TxID).

If your deposit hasn't shown up after 20 minutes, open Get help in the app and write to the team with the TxID from the app you sent it from.

Option 2: Buy USDT with INR on P2PINR

You can also buy USDT inside the app. You pay a verified merchant by UPI or bank transfer, and the USDT lands in your P2PINR wallet. Always pay from a bank or UPI account in your own name, and never pay outside an order.

Buying limits are different from Scan & Pay limits:

  • Without KYC: 1 – 15 USDT per order, 2 orders a day, 15 orders a month.
  • With KYC: 1 – 30 USDT per order, 3 orders a day, 30 orders a month.

How to pay UPI QR with USDT: step by step

Once you have USDT in your balance, this is how a payment at a shop goes.

  1. Open Scan & Pay in the P2PINR app.
  2. Scan the shop's UPI QR code. Use the QR at the counter, not one someone sent you by message.
  3. Enter the INR amount. Type exactly what the shop asked for. The USDT for it will be taken from your balance.
  4. Check the details before you place the order. Look at the amount and the shop's UPI details read from the QR. If anything doesn't match the shop, stop.
  5. Check the fee. Any fee is shown in the order before you pay.
  6. Place the order. Your USDT is locked in escrow, and a verified merchant accepts the order.
  7. Wait while the merchant pays the shop. This usually happens within 7 minutes.
  8. Ask the shop if they got it. Ask the shopkeeper to check their UPI app or sound box for the credit.
  9. Confirm on the order. Only after the shop says the money has arrived.

Two practical points:

  • One order at a time. You can only have 1 order in progress at once. Finish or close the current one before you start another.
  • Stay at the counter until it's done. If the shop doesn't get the money, you want to raise it on the order right away, not later.

Limits and fees

Scan & Pay shares one limit with selling USDT. Your Scan & Pay orders and sell orders are counted together.

Without KYCWith KYC
Amount per order1 – 200 USDT1 – 200 USDT
Orders per dayNo limitNo limit
Orders per monthNo limitNo limit
Orders in progress at once11

Fees for Scan & Pay:

  • 0.10 USDT on orders below 10 USDT.
  • Free from 10 USDT.
  • Any fee is shown in the order before you pay.

So for very small payments, a small fixed fee applies. From 10 USDT upwards there is no Scan & Pay fee. You can see all fees on our Fees & rates page.

KYC, said plainly

Scan & Pay works without KYC, within the limits in the table above: 1 – 200 USDT per order, with no daily or monthly order limit. With KYC, those Scan & Pay limits are the same.

KYC matters mainly for buying USDT on P2PINR. Without KYC you can buy 1 – 15 USDT per order; with KYC it rises to 1 – 30 USDT per order, and you get more buy orders per day and per month. You can raise your buy limit further by locking USDT in a Buying stake tier, and your per-order buy limit also grows by itself as your completed buying grows.

KYC is done in the app with a photo ID and a live selfie. A manual review takes up to 24 hours. You can get started without KYC within the limits shown above, and completing KYC gives you higher buy limits.

If no merchant accepts or something goes wrong

No merchant accepts your order

At busy (peak) times all merchants may be occupied, or only a few may be online. If no merchant accepts within 3 minutes, the order ends by itself and your USDT goes back to your balance.

Try again after some time. A smaller amount is often accepted faster. While you wait, the shop has not been paid, so you can pay another way if you're in a hurry.

The shop says it didn't get the money

Don't confirm the order. Open it and tap "Shop didn't get it — hold my USDT". Your USDT stays locked while the P2PINR team checks.

Disputes are handled on the order page, one per order, not through a separate ticket. Do it while you are still with the shopkeeper, so they can check their UPI app with you.

Other questions

For anything else, open Get help in the app. It has answers on deposits, withdrawals, limits and orders, and a way to write to the team.

QR safety checks before you pay

Fake QR codes are a real problem in India. Fraudsters often paste their own QR sticker over a shop's real code, so the money goes to them instead of the shop. Scan & Pay pays whatever QR you scan, so these checks matter just as much as with any UPI app.

  • Check the payee details after scanning. If the UPI ID or name has nothing to do with the shop, stop and ask the shopkeeper.
  • Use the QR at the counter. Don't pay a QR sent to you by WhatsApp, SMS or social media unless you know and trust the sender.
  • Look for stickers on top of stickers. A peeling edge, a newer-looking print or a QR that sits slightly crooked can mean someone covered the real code.
  • Ask when in doubt. Ask the shopkeeper to show their UPI ID on their own phone.
  • Never confirm before the shop says it got the money. A message on your screen is not proof. The shop's own UPI app or sound box is.
  • Check the amount twice. Make sure you typed rupees for the actual bill. A wrong amount is hard to fix after the shop is paid.

Ways to spend USDT in India compared

There are a few common ways to use USDT for everyday payments in India. Here is a general comparison of how they work. Features vary from app to app, so always read the app's own terms.

Scan & Pay (P2PINR)Sell USDT to your bank, then pay by UPIWallet-connect payment apps (general)

Selling first suits you if you prefer the shop to receive money from your own bank account, or if you're paying someone who expects a transfer from you by name. On P2PINR, selling also works without KYC (1 – 200 USDT per order).

Scan & Pay suits quick payments at a counter, when you just want the shop paid without moving money through your bank first.

Risks to know, honestly

Every payment method carries some risk, and Scan & Pay does too. Here is what to keep in mind.

  • The USDT rate changes. The USDT taken for a ₹1,000 payment today may differ from tomorrow. USDT is designed to track the US dollar, but its rupee value moves with the exchange rate and market conditions.
  • The shop receives money from a merchant's account, not yours. Most shops won't notice or mind. But if a shop needs to see the payment come from you by name, for example for an invoice, sell your USDT to your own bank first and pay from there.
  • Wrong network, wrong address. Sending USDT on a network other than BEP-20 can mean losing it for good. This is the most common costly mistake.
  • Fake QR codes. If you pay a fake QR, the merchant has paid the wrong account on your instruction. Do the safety checks above every time.
  • Confirming too early. Once you confirm, the USDT is released. Only confirm after the shop says the money has arrived.
  • Bank and compliance checks. Banks in India watch payments linked to crypto. Using your own accounts and following the app's rules helps, but nobody can promise there will never be a problem.

If any of these risks don't suit you, paying with rupees from your bank is the simpler option.

Tax on paying with USDT in India

Checked 23 October 2026. Tax rules change, so please confirm with a tax professional before you file.

In India, crypto such as USDT counts as a virtual digital asset (VDA). Spending it is generally treated as a transfer of a VDA, just like selling it. Income from transferring a VDA is taxed at a flat 30%, plus cess and any surcharge that applies. Only the cost of acquisition can be deducted, and losses can't be set off against other income or carried forward.

In simple terms: if the rupee value of the USDT when you spend it is higher than what you paid for it, that difference may be taxable income. A 1% TDS rule can also apply to VDA transfers above certain yearly limits.

As of October 2026, the new Income-tax Act, 2025 has been in force since 1 April 2026. It renumbers many sections but keeps the 30% tax and 1% TDS on VDA transfers. You can read the Income Tax Department's own notes at incometaxindia.gov.in.

Keep a simple record of each payment: the date, the INR amount, the USDT spent and what you originally paid for that USDT. Then ask a tax professional how it applies to you.

Ready to try it?

If you already hold USDT on BEP-20, Scan & Pay is a simple way to pay a shop in rupees without moving money through your bank first. Start with a small payment, check the QR, and confirm only after the shop says it got the money.

You can create your P2PINR account here, add USDT, and open Scan & Pay the next time you're at the counter.

Frequently asked questions

Can I pay a UPI QR code directly with USDT in India?

Yes. With P2PINR's Scan & Pay you scan any UPI QR code, enter the INR amount, and the USDT for it is taken from your P2PINR balance. A verified merchant then pays the shop in rupees by UPI.

Does the shopkeeper need to accept crypto?

No. The shop receives a normal INR payment by UPI from a verified merchant. The shopkeeper doesn't need to accept crypto or install anything.

Do I need KYC to use Scan & Pay on P2PINR?

No. Scan & Pay works without KYC at 1 – 200 USDT per order, with no daily or monthly order limit, and the limits are the same with KYC. KYC (photo ID and live selfie, reviewed within 24 hours) mainly raises your buy limits.

How long does a USDT-to-UPI QR payment take?

Once a merchant accepts your order, they usually pay the shop within 7 minutes. If no merchant accepts within 3 minutes, the order ends by itself and your USDT goes back to your balance.

Which USDT network should I deposit for Scan & Pay?

Only BNB Smart Chain (BEP-20), at least 3.00 USDT. It is credited after 15 confirmations, usually within 15 minutes. USDT sent on any other network can be lost for good.

What happens if the shop doesn't receive the money?

Don't confirm the order. Open it and tap "Shop didn't get it — hold my USDT". Your USDT stays locked while the P2PINR team checks.
